Beechwood Cottage Reviews

Elaine
Brilliant week at Beechwood Cottage!
Debbie
We booked Beechwood for a week at the end of October as we had tickets for the Enchanted Forest and we wanted to spend some time in the local area. My husband and I traveled with our two adult sons who have autism learning disabilities, a close family friend and my mom who has health and mobility problems. One of the reasons we booked this cottage was because it has ground floor bedrooms and a walk in shower which she requires. As with any review I try to balance the cost of the property with expectations based on that cost. While there are some parts of the property that look a little dated the property was immaculately clean, the beds and linen were super comfortable and the hosts were fabulous. There was a good selection of teas and coffee provided including some pods for the Nespresso machine as well as some packets of biscuits. There were also tablets for the dishwasher, washing up paraphernalia, bin bags etc. Based on all of that we felt it deserves a 1010. The lounge with it's log fire was comfortable and spacious. Perfect for all 6 of us to enjoy time together and easily comfortable for 8 adults if there were more of you. There were some board games and a few bits of information about the property and the local area. The shower room in the first king size family room has been updated since photos that are on Sykes. As has the Jack & Jill bathroom and the kitchendiner. They are all modern and tastefully decorated. The family room and the twin room both have wardrobes and a chest of drawers. The other two double rooms have a chest of drawers and some hooks on the wall with a few hangers. We managed fine but I would suggest a few extra hangers in the wardrobes would be helpful. The garden is pretty and the area is quiet and peaceful with a small table and a couple of chairs. We didn't sit outside as the weather was cold but it occurred to me that if it had been warmer we would need more chairs outside and I don't know if more are available. The gym in the summerhouse was a great bonus with a concept 2 rower and star trac cross trainer. Both robust pieces of equipment for those wanting to keep up their workouts. There's also a range of dumbbells and a bench. Kitchen was great. All mod cons. Full size fridgefreezer, modern oven and hob, microwave etc. We needed to read the manual provided to check the oven settings but that was easily done. All manuals for the appliances are provided if needed. The local area is so pretty. If, like my husband, you're a keen hill runner there are several Monroes nearby. He took off for a run straight from the front door and did an 8 hour run taking in 3 of them! He enjoyed his fish and chips after that. We mainly are at the house but got fish & chips on our last night from The Plaice to Be in Pitlochry. It was really good. Cooked fresh to order and a standard fish & chips came with two good size pieces of fish and loads of chips so easily shared. We went for walks at Garry Bridge, the Falls of Bruar and Faskally woods. The scenery is beautiful everywhere you go and we hope to come back to the area to see and do more. We went to House of Bruar a couple of times. I find it bizarre that it's so busy even mid week in October when it really is quite expensive. There's a lot to see and it's certainly interesting but be prepared for high end products and prices. We bought a few things in the food hall the butchers is especially good, our friend got a great bargain on a small harris tweed backpack that was on sale and my son wanted a new flatcap with his spending money so he splashed out on a harris tweed one. The hot chocolate, coffee and donuts from the kiosk were tasty and much appreciated by our boys after doing the Falls of Bruar walk. Check out the Watermill for fresh bakery items in Blair Atholl too. The main indoor Cafe has steps up so we couldn't take my mum but they kindly let us take a cheese scone home for her. Some items are only for those sitting in the cafe but there was lovely, warm, fresh bread to take home. We really want to thank Lin & Gordon for being kind and thoughtful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We had an issue with the shower not working and they arranged a swift repair. On our last night there was a power cut and Lin brought motion sensor lights and a flashlight. They live next door and run the Ptarmigan guest house so are easily available if required during your stay. We don't know what next year will bring but we would hope to visit again in the future. There's still so much more we would like to see and do in the area and Beechwood cottage was perfect for our family.
The holiday property was excellent for our family in every aspect and everyone of us enjoyed the holiday. The owners of the property were very friendly and helpful and gave us some great advice' on local amenities available. The kitchen was equipped with everything that we needed.Overall a great family experience enjoyed by all.
Lovely comfortable property in a beautiful location, with nice views. Pretty much everything you need is provided in the house. The only thing we couldn't find were utensils for the bbq, which wasnt a big problem, just a slight inconvenience. Overall we had a pleasant stay, being 2 families of 2 adults and 2 young children each.
We all had a great holiday at Beechwood Cottage. We found the kitchen had been renovated fridge freezer is now in the kitchen since the photos were taken, now open plan with the dining room so looks different from photos but still a lovely space. The house is spacious, comfortable and clean with all you need for either a relaxing lovely garden to sit in or energetic great walks from the door holiday. We would be happy to return.

We had the most fantastic stay at beechwood cottage. It was a beautiful, clean cottage with lots of amenities. Its location was perfect for exploring the local area which is beautiful.
This was our third stay in this lovely cottage in the last four years. Lyn and Gordon were very welcoming and helpful hosts. Cottage was very comfortable and spacious with nice outside sitting area and large parking space. Ideally situate for lots of nice walks and places to visit.
This property matched the description perfectly . It was impeccably clean, except for cobwebs in several rooms. I did not reduce the cleanliness rating for this, as it didnt bother me, but other customers may not like this . I was just really thrilled to have a clean property after the negative experience with our last holiday. It was a personal touch to have the owner call me prior to the holiday, I appreciated this. I was also really grateful to have some handwash and toilet rolls on arrival . In the past I had to find the local shop on arrival, so thank you for this! It was perfectly kitted out in the kitchen. Usually I take two pots with me, because in my experience I am provided with poor quality pots that burn and stick food . However the owner had provided some good saucepans . The only suggestion I would make is some basic baking goods ie scales, cake tins, cupcake trays. But we improvised and still managed to bake. I would return to this property if I wish to explore this region again and recommend it to friends and family.
Great cottage. Great location. Owner friendly and helpful. Would recommend for family holidays. No problems.
Stacey
We had a great holiday at the cottage. There was a small shop close by that was very handy when you don't arrive until tea time and just need a few essentials until you can get for a proper shop. Lovely walks nearby. The cottage was beautiful and very comfortable. The duvets were slightly heavy for summer but no big deal and l noticed that there have been reviews on the seating area but the seats were very comfortable and my daughter loved the settee as she said you sunk into it
Sharon
Website details require updating as lovely kitchendiner is listed as separate rooms. Overall cottage was perfect but hand towels would be good, especially as guests are staying for a week.
Gillian
The bungalow is lovely and clean. I would have given 3.5 stars if possible. The only things that let it down are the pillows, duvets and seating area. The seats and sofa weren't comfortable and need replacing. The pillows were awful and the duvets so heavy. The garden was great and the gym a welcome addition. The kitchen dining area was great for the party of 6.
Superb property, spacious and comfortable. Very helpful owners. Ideal location to explore the Cairngorms on one side or the Highlands on the other. Although it can take a while to drive to places nearby, this felt like it was right in the middle with plenty of options. Plenty of parking outside and close to A9 without being able to hear it. Nice to have a property where we didn't need to worry about hot water for showers running out. House was also lovely and warm. Could use hand towels, a couple of extra kitchen knives and a new clothes drying rack though. A folder with some local info would also be great. Otherwise really well equipped, felt like a real home from home. Would definitely consider coming back again for another stay and would recommend to others without hesitation.
Had a great stay at Beechwood Cottage, the cottage was immaculate and very comfortable, it had everything we needed for our stay. The gym in the summerhouse was an added bonus for our adult children and their partners. The lady and gentleman who looked after the cottage were very friendly and gave us good advice of what was in the area to visit and places to eat. Would highly recommend the cottage and area for a relaxing break which was what we had planned
Barbara
This is a really beautiful cottage with all the facilities you could possibly need for a break away from home, and lots more! My grandson wanted to move in!. The kitchen area has been updated to an open plan kitchendiner and is very spacious. My only suggestion would be a hook in the shower room of the second bedroom no big deal but it would save things being on the floor. I would definitely recommend a stay here.
What a beautiful, comfortable space to spend quality time with the family. Hosts were very friendly. Stripping beds for a 10am checkout was only a tiny niggle! If it was a later checkout it would have been easier. Would happily return though.
We had a lovely week in Blair Atholl, the cottage was perfect very well equipped also clean warm and comfortable. Lots of nice places to visit nearby, lovely walks along the river Tilt also Killiecrankie and Falls of Bruar.
Beautiful house, perfect for a family holiday with mixed ages. Plenty of walks and good food close by. Look forward to visiting again.
We are a car club and had 4 cars 8 people staying. The home is very homely and all are party enjoyed our stay there. Plenty of parking and also pubs, restaurants within 10 minute walk as well. Ideal location for travelling on some lovely scenic roads.
Gustav
We had a really nice stay. Really kind hosts Great Recommendations for activities Nice Puzzles

We had a pleasant stay at Beechwood cottage. The owners were pleasant and really helpful. Really happy with the kitchen and gym, parking facilities. Kept us nice and cosy inside the house. Two things that could have better is better toilet and shower room in second bedroom. There was mould on walls. May be get rid of musty carpet in living room. We really enjoyed the stay. Thank you for providing such a nice place.
We had a fab holiday throughout our stay in this property. The cottage is close to places where we wanted to explore and had adventurous experience with the kids. The owner met us up at the cottage after we settled in on our 1st day of arrival which we thought was very nice, gave us an overview of places to see, things to do and recommended places that served great food which was a bonus! The cottage itself was very clean and was prepared for a homely stay nice bouquet of flowers in the living room. Beds were comfortable and each has en suite showertoilet. Kitchen was well equipped with everything you'll need for cooking and washing. Dishwasher was very handy as we came in 2 groups and mostly cooked for meals. Also made use of washing machine as always out and about and kids especially were constantly getting messy. Just one suggestion to make for future holidaymakers maybe an indoor airer would come handy if unable to hang the washing outside since we're in scotland, weather can be so unpredictable!. Either indoor airer or a tumbledryer can be put in place, however, I bet indoor airer would be the cheaper option between the two. Summerhouse equipped with amazing gym equipment was very handy as my friend's teenage son was gym fanatic so fairly made use of it! Overall, our holiday was so relaxing and worthwhile knowing we had a comfortable place to stay. We do highly recommend this place for holidaymakers who intend to seek a peaceful and relaxing break from their own homes!
Just had the loveliest of stays at Beechwood Cottage. its set back from the road in a lovely quiet spot in the Village with two shops within walking distance and a great Fish and Chip Shop. The Cottage was very comfortable and warm and got a surprise as the kitchen had been updated from the photographs. The kitchen had everything you would need and more only one small item needs replaced as didnt work was the tin opener. The livingroom was very large with comfortable seating for everyone. Bedrooms were again super with three having ensuites and the beds were really comfortable. The garden was very secluded and great to sit in the sun. The equipment in the summer house was a fun addition.
Hi We use cottages quite a bit and I have a few suggestions. Some highball tumblers would be handy, more explicit instructions on which bins to use, you have a green bin but it has a blue lid, which is it green or blue, no indication of where to put glass. The back door lock is very flimsy and difficult to lock, the carpet in the hall is very nice but it is a trip hazard and finally my wife has allergies and the feather filled cushions were a bit of a problem. It is a nice comfortable cottage and we enjoyed our stay, thank you.
Fantastic stay. Great way to be with family and have dinners together in the dining room in the evening. Location is great to do daytrips. Owners were very nice as well. Great holiday recommend this rental.
A really perfect stay for a week with teenage children. Everything well provided for, and with a gym and large garden, it really made a special Summer Holiday break. Thank you.
Debbie
Lovely, clean and cosy house. Very welcoming hosts and close by if needed. Beautiful location. The only down side is the lack of hanging space in some of the bedrooms.
This was our second stay at this property. The cottage is comfortable and well furnished. All rooms are a good size with a very large lounge. The owners were very helpful with advice on good eating places and things to do.
We all had a lovely holiday. Beechwood Cottage was beautifully furnished, well equipped and very roomy and comfortable . Located within easy walk of convenience store, restaurants, caf, and the lovely walk along the river Tilt. Nearby within about 15 minute drive was Pitlochry and lovely walks at Killiecrankie, Queens View, Bruar Falls, Loch Faskally etc. Highlight for two teenagers with us was experience of White Water Rafting on the Tay and the Killy zip experience at Killiecrankie. Lin and Gordon were very lovely, helpful hosts.

The directions to the cottage could be more detailed. The spot on the map is not accurate
